ABOUT THE CLUB EVENTS
The club organises a number of events for its members on a regular basis.
These include -
-
A monthly catch up for a meal prior to the club's monthly meeting. These are always held on the 1st Thursday of each month (with the exception of January)
-
Monthly car runs that explore our lovely backyard. These are typically a car run to a destination somewhere in Canterbury for either a picnic, coffee at a nice cafe or visiting a place of interest.
-
There are longer runs organised from time to time that involve a night or two sleepover. These are typically to the further reaches of the beautiful South Island.
-
During the longer days of summer, impromptu twilight runs are organised to enjoy the warmer evenings. These typically are an hour in duration and end with either a coffee or meal at a nice venue.
Run reports are always included in the monthly newsletter.
EXAMPLE OF SOME OF THE PAST EVENTS ORGANISED BY THE CLUB...
Sunday Coffee Run to Glentunnel
Exploring the Darfield districts local roads with the final destination of coffee and cake at the Willows Café at the Glentunnel Golf Club.
Coffee Run over the Port Hills to Raspberry Café, Tai Tapu
Short coffee run through Lytelton Tunnel, over Gebbies Pass to Tai Tapu and
onto the Raspberry Café (via a few Canterbury back roads).
Overnight Stay at Duvauchelle Hotel
Weekend trip over to Banks Peninsula and overnight stay with
a "crazy hat" theme. Bank Peninsula is always excellent MX-5
driving country so is visited probably at least once a year.
Impromptu Twilight Run to Lincoln
A one hour twilight via Sumner, over the Port Hills, through Lyttelton, Gebbies Pass and onto Coffee Culture in Lincoln. Twilight runs are normally on a Wednesday night in the summer months.
ONE OFF OR UNIQUE RUNS...
These are rare and are normally one off occasions but they do come around from time to time
Ashburton Rotary 25th Classic Cars Rally
The MX-5 was the feature car for the Ashburton Rotary organised event where 57 MX-5's turned up from Christchurch, Timaru / Ashburton and Marlborough clubs. Possibly a record for most mx-5's gathered in one place for the South Island.
COMMENTS from some of our members about the organised runs include -
"Awesome, Pete and I really enjoyed our first outing with you all. Wow what a great turn out!
Was a lovely drive and views...the meal was also amazing. Meeting lots of nice friendly people, sorry we didn't get a chance to have a chat to you all, but am sure we'll meet on our next venture with you.
Many thanks for a well organised evening Steve"
"I especially enjoy the coffee runs, as you end up finding these hidden gems (cafes) that you would have never known about. Raspberry Café would be one of my favourites that I discovered through being a member of the club"
"Fantastic roads we travelled, some I have not traversed previously which were highly suitable for the MX5 and well lead by Grant. Christine and I enjoyed the company of the group and very pleased we partook in the event, look forward to a similar event maybe next year on some new roads"
"Very well put together run our first and really enjoyed the day thanks heaps"
